Let’s Keep it Real!

Real K-12 Teachers using real data to implement data science in their curriculum.

Give your students authentic data science experiences by working with real NC State research data. We have worked with biology, toxicology, environmental, chemistry, and engineering research generated by the Center for Human Health and the Environment (CHHE). This program is designed for grades 8-12 with a focus on math, science, and social sciences content areas. However, teachers from all subjects are encouraged to participate!

Year-long Cohort Opportunity

This yearlong cohort will guide you through best data practices for using and training your students to work with raw data. Learn how lessons using real datasets can enrich your classroom content and increase student engagement.

This cohort will meet for 4 in-person workshops and will have monthly virtual check-ins throughout the year. We want to ensure maximum attendance so the dates currently listed as, “TBD” will be scheduled based on the availability of the final cohort. Participants will receive a stipend for every in-person workshop attended, totaling $1,200 for the year. During the program, you will work with teachers from across NC to develop and pilot a cross-disciplinary data science lesson using CHHE research data. You will also be encouraged to present your lesson at a STEM or data science-related conference. Applications to participate will close on May 17, 2024, and those accepted will be notified by May 27, 2024.  All workshops will be located on NC State University’s campus and housing accommodations will be provided. If you cannot commit to the program for the full year, please do not apply at this time.
