TraCS Support Program Data Science Consultant (GRA Position)

The Data Science and AI Academy seeks two PhD-level students to provide consulting services covering the use of electronic health records data within UNC’s TraCS program: https://tracs.unc.edu/. While this program is funded through a grant at UNC-Chapel Hill, its work will be located at NC State.

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Create training materials such as short “how-to” videos and sample notebooks
  • Support current and potential users of UNC’s TraCS program
  • Triage incoming requests to handle by self or redirect as appropriate
  • Provide technical consultation. This includes answering questions on how to perform specific tasks. For example, how do I compute a confidence interval or perform a survival analysis in R.
  • Provide study design consultation

Required Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will be a PhD-level student in a STEM major. Qualified candidates from other programs are encouraged to apply. This position is open to masters and doctoral students, but doctoral students are strongly preferred.
  • Customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn new things are required

Desired Skills:

  • Python and/or R
  • Jupyter Notebooks
  • Python libraries: e.g., Pandas, Numpy, Scikit-learn, visualization (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly)
  • R packages: e.g., tidyverse, epiR, survival, visualization (ggplot)

Pay and GSSP Eligibility:
This is a Graduate Research Assistantship that will pay $21168 for an academic year appointment ($1017 biweekly, $10,584 per semester) for 20 hours per week during the academic year. This position is GSSP eligible.

The positions will start in August 2025 and are contingent on continued funding from NIH.

These positions are supervised by Emily Griffith (Professor of the Practice, Department of Statistics) and John Slankas (Senior Research Scholar, Laboratory for Analytic Sciences).
