Gain practical data science and AI skills in our one-credit, project-based courses. Open to all levels and disciplines, our classes emphasize hands-on learning through interactive projects that build data literacy without traditional tests or quizzes.

Learn More About NC State Academies

What is an NC State Academy?

At NC State, an academy is a strategically-focused university-level interdisciplinary unit with the potential for and goal of working with all 12 colleges. Academies provide a common ground for faculty, staff and students of colleges, centers, institutes and other initiatives to connect and contribute to NC State’s key areas of interdisciplinary strength, providing leadership for North Carolina, the nation and world. The work of the academies will address all three pillars of the university’s land-grant mission: excellent teaching, the creation and application of knowledge, and engagement with public and private partners. Each academy is overseen by an executive director reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for University Interdisciplinary Programs.

NC State AI Academy

Since launching in spring 2020, NC State University’s AI Academy has prepared over 2,000 professionals in artificial intelligence. The academy, founded with a five-year, $6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, partners with more than 100 organizations to upskill their employees for AI roles. The program is also open to individuals looking to enter the data science and AI fields.

Data Explorers, an NC State Data Science and AI Academy program in partnership with The Science House, The Friday Institute, NC School of Science and Mathematics, and COMAP, brings data science and AI to K-12 classrooms. It offers professional development for teachers, student courses and challenges, and curriculum and policy resources.
