Join us in supporting educators and students for a data-driven future!

Education is evolving, and it takes a collaborative effort to ensure students are prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead. The NC Data Science Education Summit brings together educators, industry leaders and nonprofit organizations to shape the landscape of data education in North Carolina.

About the Summit

Launched in 2023, the annual NC Data Science Education Summit is organized by NC State’s Data Science and AI Academy, in partnership with Data Science 4 Everyone, The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, The Science House and the NC School of Science and Mathematics. Our mission is to promote early integration of data science education and its practical applications in everyday life.

Three Strands of the 2025 Summit

  • Classroom Explorers – collaborate with peers to integrate data science into core subjects, share strategies and learn from each other’s experiences.
  • Course Innovators – hear from schools currently offering the new CS30: Introduction to Data Science course, share insights from their experiences and discuss strategies to support implementation in additional middle and high schools.
  • Leadership Champions – engage with fellow administrators and district leaders to support both course adoption and interdisciplinary integration, while identifying actionable next steps for your school or district.

What to expect

  • Hear directly from students about what helps them learn — and what gets in the way.
  • See models: middle-grades integration in math, science and social studies; high-school course approaches.
  • Connect with district leaders, coaches and partners to align supports and share resources.

Bring a Colleague, Boost Your Chances to Win Swag

We encourage teachers to attend the Summit in pairs or with colleagues from their school community. To make it even more fun, we’re adding a raffle with great swag and resources!

  • Here’s how it works:
    • Every attendee will receive one raffle ticket.
    • If you come with a school colleague or administrator, you’ll get bonus tickets—increasing your chances to win.
    • Strengthen your professional network and your odds in the raffle by registering with a teammate!

Special Support for Educators

Thanks to support from InSTEP (NSF DRL 1908760) and COMAP, we can offer:

  • A $100 stipend for the first 50 NC educators (teachers, administrators, instructional coaches, district leaders) who register and attend
  • Substitute reimbursement and a travel support stipend
    • Please indicate in the registration form if you would like to be considered for substitute reimbursement and/or hotel accommodation. Note: Substitute reimbursements will be made to the school or district.

Why Attend?

  • Prepare for the Future: North Carolina anticipates a significant surge in computer and mathematical jobs by 2026. This summit equips educators with the tools and knowledge to prepare students for these opportunities.
  • Discover Innovative Lesson Plans: Explore data-driven lesson plans created by K-12 teachers. These plans use real data and robust analysis methods, covering topics like battery life prediction, weather pattern analysis and traffic pattern assessment, all tailored for various age groups.
  • Network and Collaborate: Connect with fellow educators, industry professionals and researchers passionate about data education.
  • Contribute to a Leading Initiative: Be part of North Carolina’s effort to lead the data science education revolution. With the launch of the North Carolina Data Science + AI Education Network, we are setting the standard for data-empowered education.

Who Should Attend?

  • K-12 Educators
  • Higher Education Faculty
  • Industry Professionals
  • Nonprofit Leaders
  • Anyone passionate about data education
