A new Data Science School of Distinction banner has gone up at the Wake Young Men`s Leadership Academy! From 2025 to 2026, Shannon Hardy, a Math teacher at the Academy, participated in our yearlong "The Why of Statistics" professional development cohort, led by Emily Hector.
This cohort supported teachers of grades 9-12 in building their own data fluency while creating classroom-ready activities that develop students’ critical thinking with data. Through hands-on workshops, collaborative lesson design and real-world data investigations, the teachers explored ways to enhance their students` statistical thinking, data science skills, bias recognition and more.
